Saying the unsayable on earth day. I don’t have a car and wonder… why do cars have the right of way in traffic and in the political economy?

Agreed on all counts! I’m so deeply opposed to lawn, and most people look at me like I’m nuts when I get on my soap box. Just because it’s what we’ve done, doesn’t mean it’s what we should continue doing. I did not know the facts about cruise ships. YIKES. And it’s just plain dumb that we don’t have functional public transportation in the vast majority of the US. Would love to see some of these things shift in my lifetime. ❤️

rockets that go to space for 11 minutes so that rich people can say they went to space

I definitely left this out because I could write an entire essay on how much these should NOT EXIST. Neither the rockets nor the billionaires. Wholly agree with you here.

I agreed with your list almost fully , but at least on a cruise you go somewhere for more than 11 minutes 😂 I can’t think of anything more pointless than launching Katy Perry in a rocket for 11 minutes. It was such a massive waste of fuel.

Wow, I had no idea cruise ships are so wasteful. Thank you for raising our awareness. With so many other lower impact ways to travel and vacation, I totally agree that cruise ships should not be a thing anymore.

Yes, it's really wild. I knew they were bad, but they're worse than I thought!

The goddamn cruise ships! I lived in a tourism city that was utterly dependent on the cruise ships and their ilk. They brought bad tourists (I worked in service industry and it was obvious who came on the ships), dumped massive amounts of pollution and waste in our waters, and made horrible sounds while running their engines constantly and using massive amounts of energy. They are THE WORST. Also, yes, lawns are horrible, a worthy hill to die on.

This experience with cruise ships sounds about right. There is no logical reason for their existence...only for the sake of capitalism at this point.
